Wikipedia defines Spring Fever as “a term describing common psychological symptoms occurring in the spring season.”
This definition makes us question, “What are those ‘psychological symptoms’?” They could be feelings of restlessness or excitement, anticipation mixed with fear, or simply a longing to be outdoors basking in the peaceful safety of simple sunshine. So…why do we experience spring fever?
I am sure there have been some interesting studies done on the subtle truths about Spring Fever and just what to blame this healthy friskiness on. It is thought that our Vitamin D levels drop by 50% during the winter and climb back up as we soak in the sun of soft spring rays. Could it be hormonal? It’s true that testosterone kicks in and our senses awaken when spring approaches. We feel more alive and desire the stimulation to gratify the senses. Spring tickles the senses with fresh growth and new color – feeding the soul.
It is also speculated that getting outdoors activates endorphins that produce a state of heightened well being. (I’m all for that!) Is that why spring is the season for lovers? An abundance of vitamin D, testosterone, and endorphins… sounds like the perfect environment to breed the bliss of fresh love to me!
But, after all, we are more than just physical beings. Our human existence consists of three parts: body, mind and soul. So there must be more to this “Spring Fever” thing than just physical sparks. Therefore, I went into my intuitive space and consulted with Source and my Inner Wisdom to peel back myth and reveal the real deal with Spring Fever from a broader, more spiritual perspective.
It was revealed that Spring Fever is the sensation you experience as you meet with challenge and discover an opportunity of grace. The New Year rings in with an energetic desire to leave what hasn’t worked for you behind and to experience the motivation of hope as you look forward to a new beginning. The New Year brings a rejuvenated anticipation of change mixed with the inspiration of believing things can improve in the future. Then Spring hits and underneath the surface, like the seed waiting to break through to the light, we realize “Hey, it’s spring already and what happened to all that I hoped for?”
In essence, Spring time is an awakening – a reconciliation between where you feel you are and what you have hoped for. Spring says it’s time to take a look at the balance sheets and do an inner spring cleaning. Are you in line for manifesting what you desire or are you thinking, feeling and doing the same things that never got you where you want to be?
The restlessness you feel in the spring – the urge to clean out the closets and enjoy the outdoors is merely the spirit within asking you to face the challenge of clearing away what is still blocking you so that you no longer hold yourself back. It is an accounting for where you stand in relationship to your commitment to experiencing your desires. Then you can more easily bring into your life what you truly desire. Mark Twain put it best: “It’s spring fever…. You don’t quite know what it is you DO want but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!”
Source/Spirit wants to deliver what you desire so you can choose to enjoy spring’s promise of grace and deliverance. All you have to do is be willing to face the challenge of weeding out the dead debris, tilling the soil, and intentionally cultivating your garden.
How are you working with your spring fever? What was it in the 2011 you hoped for? What thoughts, feelings and actions cultivated a garden for your seeds of desire to sprout and grow? Remember….the tilling and weeding may take a bit of work but the result will be an amazingly beautiful garden that only you can grow.
